Welcome!
Did you come across my website because you think you might need counseling – or
maybe looking to see what’s available for a friend or family member? I am a firm
believer in counseling – and have been blessed to see some major growth in my clients.
My Name is Michelle Woodison-Evans. I have been working as an individual, couples,
family, and group therapist for over 20 years with all age groups – from preschoolers
to senior citizens in Kent City MI and surrounding areas. I am passionate about helping people achieve mental health,
become free from alcohol/drugs, improve self-esteem, and develop happy, healthy
relationships with family and friends. My style is warm and accepting. I use creativity
and humor in my work whenever possible. Helping people discover their “Self-State”
- and learn to love - their many “parts,” as well as the “parts” of others, is a
truly fascinating and rewarding adventure.
Background
Regarding my academic and professional background, I received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Psychology from Aquinas College in 1989. My Master’s Degree in Social
Work from Western Michigan University in 1992, and have been licensed through the
state of Michigan since 1994, and certified as a CAADC, i.e., Certified Advanced
Alcohol Drug Counselor since 2001. After graduate school, I had the privilege of
intensely studying Internal Family Systems Therapy for nearly 5 years with Dr. Thomas
Holmes, a professor at WMU. Internal Family Systems is one of many models I use
– after finding what best fits the person.
I have extensive experience working with people of diverse backgrounds from various
population areas including Kent City, Grand Rapids, Newaygo, Fremont, Mecosta County and Ottawa
County.
